“We must be the change we wish to see in the world” - Mahatma Ghandi
At 11:00pm Eastern I watched Barack Obama, become the first black man elected to be the President of the United States. I had been praying all day for his victory and when it finally came, I felt as if I took the first deep breath of the day.
The Presidential Campaign has been one unlike anything we’ve seen before. To me, Obama’s message, and position has been on creating a unified country that takes care of it’s people by addressing many key issues that have been pushed aside in priority such as healthcare, the war, and the economy. To many of us, he stands for hope, change, and new possibilities. The fact that he was elected in such numbers is evidence of the need and desire for monumental change to occur.
Last night I was on the phone with my buddy Anita from 11:02pm to 12:25 am as we watched and heard John McCain’s concession speech which was fabulous. With a crowd of about 70,00 people with him in Chicago crying and cheering, Barack Obama’s acceptance speech was filled with promise and inspiration as he shared his intentions for his presidency.
What a day!
As Anita and I watched the TV we looked at it from a spiritual persective. Eight years ago, would Obama have stood a chance for the Presidency? Was the country ready for his message and vision? We say no. Aside from my opinion about President Bush, I believe he has done what he truly believes to be right and has followed his values and convictions. As a result of his Presidency, the country is facing some serious problems.
As a therapist and coach, I have found some people have to “hit the wall” before they are open and willing to do things they have been resisting. “Hitting the wall” means things have to become so painful and difficult that people stop fighting against themselves and their life. People can make huge leaps when they stop resisting and use the energy to move rather than stay stuck.
Did we have to hit the wall so that a man like Barack Obama could be our new leader and bring this country into a new age?
Maybe. I believe everything happens for a reason and there is a bigger purpose to our lives. Obama speaks as a visionary with language that speaks of an enlightened spirit. I see him as someone we have been waiting for a long time and now he is here.
“There is one thing stronger than all the armies of the world and that is an idea whose time has come.” - Voltaire
Barack Obama spoke of a 106-year old woman who voted yesterday. The changes she has seen in the world throughout her life! Can you imagine? He spoke of the changes he wishes his children to see in the future. I wish for those changes in the world too.
Theer was a time not too long ago when the idea of a black man or woman in the oval office was an impossible notion to grasp. And look at us now. What appears to be impossible might be more possible than you think!
This is an amazing time to be alive and calls us all to bring our best selves into creating that future as a one-world community.
I look forward to supporting him as the next President. His powerfull message in response to the challenges we face is “YES WE CAN!”. I believe him as I look towards a hopeful and optimistic future.
What are you seeing in your life as impossible?
What if it is more possible than you realize?
What might need to shift for something seemingly impossible to become a possibility ?
What is one thing you can do today to open up some possibilities?
Have a great day. I know I will
Cheers,
Lorraine

I know it’s been an amazing day and I believe bigger than any of us actually realise right now!
It’s funny I was talking to my boyfriend earlier today about the fact that would we have Obama if there was no Bush before? Bush has played a huge part in preparing us for the desire for change.
I’ve already faced issues with a different frame of mind today. Everytime a struggle pops to mind I think “if Obama can get to the White House, I can do this.”

We’ve been having the same conversation about how Bush’s Presidency has played a role (probably bigger than we realize) for a man like Obama and his message to be received.
He is an inspiration of what is possible for all of us. YEA!
