Blog Action Day! Generosity is One Antidote to Poverty Consciousness

“Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but by how we react to what happens, not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst, a spark that creates extraordinary results. ”

“We don’t accomplish anything in this world alone … and whatever happens is the result of the whole tapestry of one’s life and all the weavings of individual threads from one to another that creates something.” - Sandra Day O’Connor

I’m not big on watching most reality show. One of my favorites is Extreme Makover: Home Edition. For five straight years the show has been ranked #1 at 8:00 pm on ABC for folks 18-49. This year the show’s theme is on “Heroes.”

Spear-headed by Ty Pennington, with designers Paul DiMeo, Paige Hemmis, Michael Moloney, Ed Sanders, Tracy Hutson, Eduardo Xol, John Littlefield, Rib Hillis and Didiayer, the team will be giving new homes to families in need around the nation who are heralded as heroes in their community.

In one week’s time, families are given a new home with the latest in technology, “green” elements that are eco-friendly, low energy and recyclable sources build into each design makeover. Mortgages and medical debts have often been paid off. New cars, college scholarships, cash donations have been donated to ease a family’s future.

If you’ve ever watched the show, you cannot resist being deeply moved by the plight of some families and the love and generosity by everyone involved coupled with the show and the outpouring of community support coming to the aid of each deserving recipient. WOW! I sit with a box of Kleenex because I know I will be crying.  Watching their reactions to the reveal of their new home is heartwarming and deeply touching. Lives have been forever changed.

Are you allowing your inner hero and champion to come out?

The climate in the world is full of negativity, fear, and constriction that can wither faith, joy, and hope. The result is living in a state of “poverty consciousness,” filled with darkness, fear, and lack. I believe we are nourished by the people and things in our life that feed our heart and spirit AND specifically, through our connection to our spiritual center with God/Higher Power/Source/The Creator/ The Divine…. whatever words you use.

One of the ways we are at our best is when we are being of service to others in loving generosity.  We can choose to show up to enrich people’s lives by:

  • Listening without judgments or trying to fix things
  • Sharing unconditional love
  • Donating time, products, and services, money…..
  • Inspiring and motivating someone who needs a boost
  • Tithing
  • Helping someone for the sheer joy of it
  • Random acts of kindness

Don’t hold back from expressing your true nature because of fear-based thinking and constriction. Don’t starve your heart.

Generosity and love is our natural state of being. Respond to others from abundance and expansiveness. When in doubt or fear, create the space to step into the quiet within yourself that is outside of the noise in your mind. Tune into your spirit for guidance.

When you truly listen, you will always hear the truth. Then when you hear what your spirit is calling you to do or be…do it. Do it now.

Are you listening?

Cheers,

Lorraine

    Hi Lorraine,
Beautiful post! My 9 year old son LOVES Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and I love for him to watch it. He gets to witness that people do face hard times and that others go out of their way to help. GREAT message for kids tog et early on! We haven’t watched it this season but your post was a reminder to start taping it again (without ads it’s half the length).

I have a group project going called Heroes of Healing and BOY do I recognize how much people can help others. I credit the Heroes I learned from with showing me how to heal from the inside out. I now hope to pass on that message of empowerment to others.

Beautiful post for blog action day — it is so important to be generous and help others! Thank you Lorraine!
    Love, Jenny

    Hi Jenny

Thank you for your comments and I saw you joined as an affiliate. Welcome!

I saw your project on Heroes and it’s a wonderful focus, especially now. In these troubling times, we need heroes and people who bring out our bring faith, light, love, courage…..

Bravo for watching the show with your son. It has som many wonderful messages. We need more of that on TV.

Many blessings to you and those you love :D

    Hi Lorraine.

When we focus on serving others it sure helps to move us out of our own drama.

I saw Wayne Dyer on the Ellen show a while back and he was talking about how when we do a good deed for someone, both our energy levels are lifted. And, any other people who witness this good deed experience the same.

    It sure does Davina

Helping from joyfulness rather than a “should” makes a huge difference in the energy. I like beginning each day asking - How can I be of service today?

    Something always shows up!
