Coaching Tip: Are You Having Fun?

With all the demands most people have between their work, family, and personal life responsibilities, having fun can fall through the cracks. I hear people say, “I know I should be making time for more fun things fun but I just have so much to do… I’ll try to add some fun things…”

Days into weeks….months.. All work and no play?

Is that you?

Did you know that bringing fun into your life on a regular basis can happen in a few ways?

Here are three suggestions:

1. Begin each day with the decision to have fun at whatever you are doing.  Do you tend to be a serious person especially when you’re working in your business or handling responsibilities?  I admit I fall into that pattern when I’m focused on what I’m doing and the outcome I want. A friend of mine asked, “Is it possible to have fun with my business? Of course it is!  Who says a serious attitude is necessary to be responsible or successful?

A client of mine was having difficulty calling potential clients because she was afraid of feeling rejected. So, we discussed making it a game. I challenged her to get as many “nos” as she could and to celebrate her success at the end of the day. She was amazed at how many people said YES. Do you think her attitude might have made a difference?  YUP!

Who says a serious attitude is necessary to be responsible or successful?  You’re in charge of your attitude and you can create your own enjoyment no matter where you are. You can choose to adapt a playful and light-hearted spirit at work or at home. It’s all up to you whether you’re having fun or not!

2. Do something every day that brings you pleasure. Something that lifts your spirit, brings a smile, energizes you…… It can be something very simple such as listening to music you enjoy, a walk in nature…. Don’t have time? If you’re unable to find 10-15 minutes to do something for YOU, contact me. I can help you!

3. Schedule things in advance. It’s wonderful to have things to look forward to at the end of the day, week or month.  A favorite treat of mine is having a massage. I schedule one every month. Last year I bought a theater subscription with a friend and had a great time. What you choose can be anything that you’ll enjoy. Have fun coming up with things you like and begin to add them into your life!

If you’ve totally forgotten how to play and don’t have children, hang out with some kids. They’ll show you  how to have some fun! Imagine what you’ll be attracting into your life when you’re feeling more joy!

Cheers,

Lorraine

Great post Lorraine. Sometimes, with everything on my plate, I forget to “just play.” Thanks for this important reminder!

It’s reminder for me too Alex

I find that if I don’t check in often with myself, I can easily forget to bring fun into my day. And, who says we can’t bring new meaning to mixing business and pleasure?

    Warmly,
    Lorraine

I like the idea of having fun. It’s easy to get so absorbed in our work because we are doing what we love. Either way, whether indoors or outdoors, let us not forget to bring more fun into our lives.

I like the idea of incorporating fun rather than thinking we have to set time aside for it

    Have lots of fun Evelyn!
