Coaching Tip: How to Play the “Integrity Day Game”

Years ago when I was taking my coach training, one of my instructors introduced the idea of having an “integrity day.” To demonstrate the power of this concept, several of us personally participated as a group one Saturday. It was a blast.
Here’s how it works
The intention is to schedule a whole day or a half day to handle things that are lingering, undone, need to be communicated – anything you’ve been meaning to get to that you want to clear off your plate. It can be a bigger project or several things like painting a room (I did that on one call) or a bunch of things like, paying bill, clearing off emails, running some needed errands, returning some phone calls, filing papers, de-cluttering – get the picture?
You set the intention for this day with a buddy, colleague or a group of friends on a specified day. Enclosed is a sample invitation I sent to several colleagues a few years ago. It’s a fun way to get things done with the cheers and support of one or more people on your team!

YOU ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN AN INTEGRITY DAY!
Saturday June 19, 2004, 9am-12 noon EST

What is an Integrity Day?
“If you’ve got some lingering stuff that needs to be done, communicated or handled, just bring it to a call we call the Integrity Day Game. Call in at 9am, 10am, and 11am EST to share what you’re going to handle (or start if it’s a real biggie) during the hour, (we share for about 5 minutes) and then call back at the top of the hour and share what you got done, to the cheers of the crowd on the phone. It may sound corny, but it works, and it’s fun. You may call in at any of the times listed, or call in for all 3 times. Most folks participate for several hours. Our final call is at 12 noon to wrap-up and celebrate our “wins.”
The support of the group and the book-ending of the hourly check-ins provide the energy most folks need to get stuff done that they’ve been putting off. This is a perfect opportunity to strengthen your integrity by clearing out some things you’ve been delaying or avoiding to create a DO IT TODAY! day.
How much does it cost? It’s Free! The only cost is a long distance charge.
Want to play? Contact Lorraine Cohen at (my phone # and email) or call to let me know if you want to participate and I’ll advise you of the phone number to call for Integrity Day.
Feel good about yourself by feeling lighter and more focused! Be sure to plan a way to celebrate and reward yourself for a job well done.

Are you game? Have fun with it!
BTW – bridge lines are easy to get. Tons of them are free and accommodate lots of people on on one call – like a giant conference. Setting up an account usually takes a few minutes.
Cheers,
Lorraine

Almost every day seems like Integrity Day for me.
I gotta stop being so hard on myself!

Hi Lorraine,
That’s a great idea.
I’ll have to try that one day. I know lots of us could use some motivation to get some of those things, especially the ones we procrastinate with, done.
Thanks,
Gina

Hi Gina
There’s something about the group support and playing it as a game that makes doing tasks a lot more fun. Let me know how it goes!
Warmly,
Lorraine

I understand Mark
Being a person of integrity is 24-7. This game is a great way to restore integrity to what you that you mean to get handled with team support.
Try it!
Warmly,
Lorraine

Excellent Carolin
Be sure to celebrate. That’s a step people often omit.
