What Anger Can Be Covering That You Might Not Realize

As I write this post, my dear friend and business partner, Anita Pathik-Law has just moved down to Florida.  We met over two years ago and we had an instant connection.  Even though we haven’t seen each other a whole lot, I loved the idea of knowing I could see her face-to-face in just 2 1/2 hours.

She recently became an ordained interfaith minister and her dream was to have a church. The Universe responded by bringing her an offer to minister to an interfaith congregation and there was a job for her husband as well.  She said yes.

Now she is in Florida stepping into the next phase of her life as a spiritual minister and attracting additional opportunities to do the work she loves because she is saying YES to what calls to her heart.

I’m thrilled beyond words for all the good that has opened up for her. She deserves it all. She’s one of the most loving, gifted, and brilliant woman I know.

As we’ve been talking about all the changes and miracles that have been happening for her, I became aware of some feelings bubbling up towards her. I was feeling angry and there wasn’t anything specific that she had done to warrant my anger. I felt like a bratty kid who was looking to pick a fight. I noticed the stories I was making up that added more fuel to my anger and I asked myself, “If I wasn’t feeling angry, what would I be feeling?”

As soon as I asked the question, the tears came rushing to the surface. I feel joyful and very sad. The Florida offer came in June and yesterday, July 24, she was packed and moving to Florida. I miss having her close by, and a part of me feels that she has left me behind not just because she moved, also because of the opportunities that have busted open for her that are part of her destiny. Am I feeling a bit jealous? Yeah.

I fessed up about how I was feeling. As long as I stayed in my anger and jealousy, I could avoid feeling the deeper emotions of sadness. We both cried. There is something so freeing about being real and letting it all hang out. Taking ownership for what is true creates a deeper bond of trust and love that fortifies relationships and creates safety. I know we have grown closer.

I’m in a major shift myself and I can feel some big things coming. Anita’s good fortune and blessings are a reminder that we are all powerfull creators.  Everything occurs in Divine Timing and we need to say yes to receiving all the good the Universe has for us. That’s where I stand today.

How often does your anger flare up? If you weren’t feeling anger, what would you be feeling that you might be covering up?

Blessings,

Lorraine

    Hi Lorraine,
I can relate to your story. My husband and I were just saying the other day how thankful we are that we have gained awareness over our emotions so that we don’t get caught up in the stories in our heads anymore. Or if we do, it’s not for long bc the awareness factor kicks in. We have gone through so much together, pain and illness to get where we are right now and we both have said would not change anything we have gone through bc they were just what we needed to grow our consciousness. We look forward to more to come.

Thanks Lorraine for sharing your feelings. It’s seems like this is another level of growth for you as well.

    So true Gina

Having the awareness to catch yourself from screating more misery and upset is a gift. How wonderfull that you have both invested in you healing and growth to be able to share that with each other. I love hearing that!!!

Many thanks for your acknowledgement of my own growth. I am committed to being authentic even when it’s messy :D

    Have a wonderfull week

    Hey Lorraine,

Thanks for sharing a personal story.

Not just anger, but any “unacceptable” emotions — like envy, loneliness, and anger — can surface out of the blue for some “unacceptable” reasons and we try to suppress it. It stays inside and festers, forming a murky puddle that eats away at your soul.

Whatever the feelings and their reasons, the only way to release it is to fully feel it, which is what you’ve done. Feelings aren’t good or bad by itself. It’s best to just allow it to come out, without judging it.

    Thanks for your comments Ari

I don’t always share personal stories and this one was asking (inside) to be told. So true about how repressed feelings can cause so much misery and suck the joy out of life. We were created to have the scope of feelings which is about being fully alive. It feels great to be authentic and not worry about looking good.

    Blessings,
    Lorraine
