Do you run your own business or have a demanding job/career? If you said yes, you know how easy it is to work all hours including the weekends.Â
Ok, I admit, I’m guilty of doing that myself. It’s easy to keep going back to your computer for a few minutes (yeah right!) only to find hours have gone by and you’re still sitting there surfing around, checking emails, working on something, or perhaps you’re bored and the computer is a distraction?
I know how inviting the web is with articles, resources, social networking sites, forums for business and the plethora or sites that are personally interesting and entertaining.
Are you spending too much time online? You’re the only one who can answer that. Be honest. Are you? If you said yes, at what point is it time to put your attention and energy elsewhere?
Whatever the reason, being on the computer can become a habit that is addictive. Over the years, I’ve had three computer crashes that left me “computer-less” for a few days at a time. It was eye-opening to realize how dependent I had become on having access to my computer.Â
We can become so home-based that we forget there is a whole world out there right outside our door beckoning us to come out and play.
TAKE A BREAK! Do something fun, uplifting and energizing, see a movie, connect with people….
HAVE A LIFE that doesn’t always include being on your computer. If you feel you MUST do some work (online or offline), do it in the morning so that you have the rest of the day free and keep to that schedule.
If you have a tendency to be online late at night or go back to you computer when it’s time to wind down (yup, guilt again on that), I suggest committing to a time to STOP and stick to it.
Aside from something urgent that requires you to be online (like what????) give yourself permission and space to focus on the things that give you pleasure and joy on the weekends so that you can begin Monday morning with renewed energy and a fresh perspective.
Are you a computer junky?
Ok, deep breath. Push your chair back and stand up. Keep breathing. Hands up …..step away from the computer. Keep breathing, it’s going to be okay…….
Have a great day
Cheers,
Lorraine

Hahahaha
My name is Lola Fayemi and I am a computer junkie!
It’s definitely about balance and there are lots you can do without the computer too, but it’s so much fun!
When I feel myself getting sucked in, I have to remind myself often that there is always something to do, so I will never reach the end and it will be there for me to do tomorrow.
Regards
Lola

LOL Lola
As I sit here for the last few hours and haven’t had lunch yet, I’m laughing with you.
Sage advice and worth following.
I wonder if there is a 12-step program for us……
Cheers

Hey Lorraine,
This is another thing I’m working on-one of the many things! One thing that’s helped me is software called Time Out-but it only works on MACS-
You can check it out here:

It’s helped remind me to take some much needed breaks!
Thanks for tips.

Thanks Gina
Managing time on the computer can be a challenge especially when your business is so tied to using it.
Ok – time for me to get off already! LOL
Have a great night

Sometimes the best way to be more productive and creative is to get away from your computer and do something totally different.
Exercising, going for a walk, reading, etc. will all refresh you tremendously.

Absolutely Mark
I have found that to be a great thing to do. Sometimes we don’t give ourselves permission to do that and it can make a huge difference in our attitude and energy.
Thanks for adding your thoughts!
Blessings,
Lorraine

Oh yeah, I have a SERIOUS internet addiction! My modem broke a few weeks back, and I spent a weekend withdrawing!
I have to make myself quit now and then to make sure I get some exercise and have a life.
I’m trying to limit myself to six hours a day five or six days a week working on my business. I figure if I was working part-time, it would be 20 hours a week, plus commuting time. I’m making a list of what I want to accomplish, so I’m using my time more efficiently, instead of goofing around!
Thanks for the reminder!

It’s amazing how much time we can spend online and before you know it, hours have flown by Darlene
Having limits is a great idea as long as you stick to those boundaries!
Good luck
