Are your beliefs shaped by your past experiences, or do you experience what you believe in, thus creating your own reality?
Beliefs are comprised of attitudes, assumptions, and myths (false perceptions we hold about ourselves). Beliefs fuel behaviors; behaviors validate beliefs! Your self-talk gives voices to your beliefs inside your head and what you verbally repeat to others.
I see clients repeatedly feeling frustrated and beating themselves up because they are stuck in behavior patterns that aren’t bringing them the results they desire. They come to me looking for tips and strategies and often fail to see the connection between what they believe as truth and the reality they are creating! Helloooooooooooooooooooo.
Examining your beliefs is essential in understanding who you are and why you do what you do. The result is greater clarity in making choices and taking actions that are in alignment with who you are!
Beliefs that arise resulting from past experiences (situations and influential people) affect the way we approach each new situations- either being open and flowing with the experience or living defensively (survival) with preconceived expectations. Accepting the viewpoint that our life experience is the source of our beliefs causes us to see life full of challenges and limitations we need to survive and overcome. Changing behavior starts with changing beliefs, shifting attitudes and assumptions.
Your individual viewpoint consists of observations, attitude and conclusions:
1. What you first see as an observer or as a participant.
2. The attitudes (beliefs, thoughts, feelings, and assumptions) you assign to what you have observed.
3. The conclusions you reach from what you have observed. How you consciously and unconsciously interpreted what you have observed based on what’s factual and what you have imagined (combined with influence from friends, family, colleagues, etc).
Awareness = choice.
The one power you always retain in any situation is how you choose to see that situation. You are in total control of your attitude at all times. Whether you realize it or not, you choose to either react or respond to situations positively or negatively.
Bottom line:
• Your attitude affects your decisions.
• Your decisions direct your actions.
• Your actions affect what you manifest
Don’t like what you’re creating and attracting? The key to changing your reality is looking at your beliefs.
See how this works?
Attitude exercise:
Over the next 24 hours, notice when you are feeling irritated, anxious or upset with someone or a specific situation. Observe your attitude. See if you can discover where your attitude is contributing to your irritation, anxiety, or upset and what underlying belief might be driving your attitude.
Tip: Suspend self-criticism and judgments when doing self-discovery work. Stay compassionate and curious to learn something you might not realize yourself. You cannot change something you are unaware of! Once revealed, you can choose to modify, transform, or replace any non-serving belief with one that is more empowering and authentic.
Have a great week!
