On Mother’s Day

I was very blessed to have two very caring parents who always made me feel loved and safe. My mother was diagnosed with leukemia in late 1979. It came on very sudden and I watched a vibrant woman dramatically change to someone who seemed to age overnight. Even though she went into remission, I felt the clock start ticking and I sensed time was running out. A little more than two years later, she was gone.
She was a great woman and I always remember her with a smile. She had a fantastic sense of humor and she was always there for me. Some of my fondest memories are those times when we laughed and laughed so hard we were almost peeing. You know, those deep belly laughs that massage your heart and feel wonderful all over.
I will always be grateful for those memories and the gift of sharing those times of joy. While the deep pain has lifted, there is an ache that emerges at times and I miss picking up the phone to hear her voice - so comforting and uplifting. I’m thinking of her today on Mother’s Day with eternal love and appreciation.
I found this poem on Elaines’ Mother’s Day page by Renee Duvall that spoke to me.

I MISS YOU, MOM
I used to think that people didn’t need
their moms so much after they grew up.
But I’ve realized that’s not true.
So often, when I’m making a decision,
I wish you were here
so I could ask your advice.
And so many times,
when something happens
that I know you would enjoy,
I wish you were here
to share it with me.
Now that I’m older
I’ve realized how special our relationship is.
And while I’m thankful for this bond,
somehow it makes me miss you more..
Mom, I love you so very much.

You are very fortunate to have not one but two loving parents, I truly envy you. You certainly are a very blessed woman, Lorraine
I never understood how my parents can be so uncaring, and I used to, I ..hmm..I won’t say hated them, but more like..disliked their attitudes.
I have since gone through the stage of disliking them, perhaps more like pity them for not knowing how to love and care for their ahem.. their lovely children.
Now instead of feeling sorry for myself that I never had good parental love, I feel that they have missed out big time.
Blessings,
Gamy

I know I was very blessed Gamy
They weren’t perfect and there are some memories that have some pain. I am grateful to have always known that they loved me and showed up when it was important.
Look at the woman you have become because of who they were as parents -loving, kind, generous, funny, creative, smart…..
You might have become someone very different. So true that they missed out on knowing who you are because of what they experienced.
I’m so glad I’m not missing out
Blessings,
Lorraine
