Growing up as an aimless kid in a rough Pittsburgh neighborhood Strickland seemed to be on that same path of going nowhere fast when a high school ceramics teacher took him under his wing and introduced him to the power of the arts and education. Determined to help others awaken their own passions and creativity, Strickland returned to his neighborhood after college and established Manchester Bidwell, a training center and community arts program dedicated to exposing troubled kids and disadvantaged adults to a world beyond the hopelessness of their neighborhood.
