Building upon my two previous posts: Celebrate 2007 By Doing A Year-End Review and Creating A Theme Year I wanted to share with you two things I just completed to start 2008 off with a bang.
In the past I’ve created collages - visual pictures that can represent any idea, desire - anything. Now the most popular names are vision boards and treasure maps. In anticipation of creating my vision for 2008 I went over to Staples and picked up a large package of poster boards and bought glue. I sat for several hours with magazines and started cutting pictures, colors, words and phrases that really resonated with me. I even went online in search of some specific pictures and created words and phrases in Word so I could make my vision as complete as I could imagine.
My intention was to create a map of 2008 looking backward as if the year had already occurred. The result would be a celebration of the year that was my best year EVER!
Last Saturday I sat at my table with everything spread out and began bringing life to my treasure map. It was amazing to begin bringing what was in my heart onto the poster board and watching the picture take shape. My dreams and desires to have greater prosperity and inner peace, dramatically decreasing my debt, opening to receive more love in all areas of my life, committing to a healthier lifestyle and reducing weight, deepening my faith and trust with Source - all came alive as the picture took form. Five hours later it was complete.
I know I was Divinely guided in the Creation of the map because of how I felt as the picture came together.
To make the map even more powerfull and personal, I put my picture on the faces of others, added poems, special mementos, wrote in words with colored markers, and included international money to represent taking my business to a bigger global market.
The treasure map is incredible. I created it to align with the my pal Anita’s Intuitive Chakra Treasure Map. Click on the image to enlarge it on your computer
I have it hanging on my wall at the top of the stairs to my office a few feet away from my desk. Each time I look up (which is pretty often) I see the treasure map beckoning me. It inspires and motivates me.
In the creation of the treasure map I made a decision to receive the “good stuff”. I gave myself permission to say YES to my dreams and desires so that I could celebrate the accomplishment and receiving of what I want. (I wrote about letting yourself have outrageous success and personal happiness a few months ago. It was one of my most popular posts. Go read it)
AND I did one more that my dear friend Anita Pathik Law recommended. I wrote a Thank You Letter to Source (God, Higher Power, The Divine..) for all the miracles, blessings, gifts, challenges, and opportunities that I received in 2008. I spelled out what I was gratefull for in detail. I was surprised at the rush of emotion that came up as I wrote it. As I read the letter, dated 12/31/08, to Anita I was sobbing with joy and gratitude.
The creation of the Treasure Map and Thank You Letter was a humbling experience.
If you are inspired to do this for yourself, leaving me a comment would be appreciated!
Have a great day!
Warmly,
Lorraine

Hi Lorraine,
I have a vision board (actually not quite completed) and your words,
‘My intention was to create a map of 2008 looking backward as if the year had already occurred. The result would be a celebration of the year that was my best year EVER!’
really struck home as to the missing ingredient… I have my images as what I would like to have in my life in the future… I’m going to finish my vision board and have your same intention and I’ll keep you posted on the difference it makes!

Good suggestion Lorraine, stumbled your post to encourage more people to do it.

Lorraine,
Great post! I’ve done that kind of thing since high school and it is even more fun now with all the scrapbook tools available! You are absolutely correct in the power that this has!! Our minds are so powerful and we do need to believe it and receive it! I had never done the thank you letter before…but WOW!! I definitely can see the power in that and am on my way to work on mine now! Thanks for such an inspirational post!

Thanks Lorraine. I have a vision board done with the mindset of the things that I want, not as you did, creating with the thought of looking backward at the year and attracting the energy as it truly happened…I love it! I plan on doing another one now which will have pretty much the exact same pictures, but with a totally different vibration of energy from the Source. Thanks for the inspiration.

Hi Loraine.
I just want to endorse your blog. I’ve been doing “treasure maps” (aka Manifestation Wheels, Vision Boards) for many years and often have a friends come over so we create them together. The power of joint intentions is terrific.
I currently have several Treasure Maps posted in my office, right behind my computer, so I see them daily.
I love the “ah ha” moments when one of my dreams because a reality. That positive experience helps me to attract even more of my desires.
Like you, I always write (either on the back or the front of the map) a thank you note to God, a statement about my willingness to receive and accept these things (or things that are even better) if they are in alignment with my highest good and then I sign and date the map.
After that I leave the “hows’ up to God.
With blessings for bliss,

Hi Sile,
I’m excited for you and also delighted my post inspired you with a few ideas. There is something about having something visually compelling that has such a powerfull effect. Let me know how it goes!

Thanks JP
I really got into it and doing with others is a fabulous idea. I just started a virtual spiritual mastermind group and we will be sharing out treasure maps with each other. I just got off the call and read my Thank You letter to God. After hearing some of the other letters, I realized I didn’t give myself permission to dream bigger and I will be adding more this weekend.
It’s a fabulous process.
Thanks for sharing your ideas and experiences.
Blessings,
Lorraine

Dear Sheryl,
You go girl. You’re right in how it changes the vibration. I’m also reminded to let go of attaching to the outcome and going with the intention - “this or something greater.”
Have fun with it!
Cheers,
Lorraine

Hi Erica
That’s fabulous that you’ve been working with this idea for many years. The touch of adding a Thank You Letter was new for me too. It made a huge difference in holding that vision in my heart with gratitude.I’m still getting choked up and I’ll be doing some revisions this weekend.
Blessings,
Lorraine

Hi Lorraine,
I’ve always wanted to make a vision board and now after reading your post, you have inspired me to do it. I actually put a catalog in my purse last weekend that had some pictures I wanted to put on my board if I ever did one-now I’m really going to do one!
I also really liked when you said you gave yourself permission to say yes to your dreams and receive the ‘good stuff!’
Thanks for your inspiration.

Hi Gina,
I only began working with this idea several months ago even though I’ve known about maps and vision boards for years. It just felt right to create one for myself and it sounds like the timing is right for you too.
Give yourself permission to dream BIG Gina. Run with it and see where your heart takes you. I was blown away by my picture when it was done.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Blessings,
Lorraine

Hi Lorraine…
Visual representations of your goals are incredibly powerful! Each time I do this my goals manifest themselves more quickly than when I don’t.
I love your article! Thank you.

I encourage you to write the Thank You Letter too. It really adds so much energy to the map and sends that rocket of desire right out to the Universe. whoo-hoo.
I already attracted a miracle today!

Thanks for pointing us to the wonderful suggestion of writing a letter of gratitude, Lorraine. Though I haven’t done the treasure map yet, I wrote the letter today. And I can absolutely confirm that it brought a rush of wonder and emotion too deep to describe. Very powerful stuff!!
I’m going to keep my letter where I can see it the whole year.

I rewrote my letter yesterday and really give myself permission to dream bigger. It was initially surprising to me how much emotion was stirred. I’m gratefull for that too. Great idea to keep the letter visible.

As I was reading your post I thought that sounds like a good idea I might give it a go, but not sure where to start. What really inspired me to go and DO it was actually seeing your treasure map/vision board.
There I was dong my usual effort of being over-awed by someone else and thinking that I couldn’t be that creative or powerfull or even visionary, when I realised that if I don’t try I’ll never know and hey it will be good fun anyway.
Many’s the time I do sticking at home with my 3 year old daughter and get more caught up in it than she does! So why not do the same thing but with a real purpose, a real future vision and open myself up to receive all those wonderful things I know I deserve? No reason at all.
Thanks again Lo for your wonderful ability to inspire and motivate me in such a positive way. Love ya.
Alex

Hiya Alex
I know the feeling. I don’t have a lot of experience with treasure mapping/vision boards. I’ve only done it twice before. I spent a few hours cutting up pictures, colored backgrounds, words and phrases and put them in a folder. When I was ready to create the vision, I suspended any judgement of how it should look and allowed my heart and spirit to guide me. The result blew me away.
I made it fun and took a few breaks over the five hours I worked. The following days I tweaked it a tad more.
Give yourself permission to receive and see what you create.
Have fun with it!
Love ya back,
Lorraine

Hi Lorraine,
I have found the coolest and most effective tool to help
with the visualization process - a great vision board software called Mind Movies Creator.
It was created by Ryan Higgins to help others visualize and manifest the life of their dreams. See a video and find out why here http://www.squidoo.com/vision-board-software
A Mind Movie allows you to create a vision of what you want, together with your Favorite song… the one that makes you feel good, the one that makes you want to dance, the one that makes you smile and sing along.
It’s like a 3 minute slide show/movie of your perfect life.
I’m trying it out now.
I’m having fun making my own vision board/mind movie.
And because it’s a software, no need to cut up magazines!
Thanks for you blog.

Great idea for folks who aren’t very visual. I’ll have to take a look.
Thanks for letting me know.

I love the fun and self-empowerment that comes from making treasure maps.
I’ve just made one with my daughter, who now has ‘a favorite drawing’ of her future bedroom.
It is so empowering because you can see your dreams come alive, and you can add details you’ve missed over time.
Personally I’ve had great successes with treasure maps, and I make them from time to time, for the big things/people in my life
lorraine on 24 Feb 2009 at 10:21 pm: 40
Thank you for sharing Astrid
I agree, the process of creating the vision is great fun and really invites us to say YES to our deepest dreams and desires. The visual is very powerfull especially onthose days when we get lost in our own dramas and stories! How wonderfull to do that with your daughter.
