Appreciating My Mind – Finding The Gift

My friend Lola Fayemi tagged me to participate in her meme: The Good Side of The Limited Mind. The point is to write something positive about our subconscious mind.
I’m laughing about the timing of this question because I have been having several conversations with a buddy of mine about giving our subconscious mind and ego a bad rap; seeing that part of ourselves as “the bad guy”.
As a coach and counselor I work in-depth with people to shift their attitudes and behaviors so that they can be happier and prosperous. Being invested in my own experiences with personal development and spiritual awakening hones my abilities to be effective with my clients. Life’s a journey and we are all teachers and students! So, I have been considering how I feel about all of the parts of my mind!
From the info taken from Psych-K, the subconscious mind is described as:
• Habitual
~ Monitors Operation of the Body…
e.g. Motor Functions, Heart Rate, Digestion, etc.
~Thinks Literally
• Timeless
~Present Time Only • Expanded Processing Capacity
~Long Term Memory–(past experiences, attitudes, values & beliefs)
~Thousands of Events at a Time
~Averages 4 Billion Bits of Information/Second
It operates like a computer! Now you can look at this part of yourself as something to be scorned and condemned, or appreciated and valued. My vote is towards the latter. Why? Geez, do we really need more ammo to beat ourselves up?Â
I see my subconscious mind as innocent of deliberately trying to hurt me or hinder me by holding beliefs that have served me to feel more compassion and forgiveness for myself and others, claim more personal power to be authentic and show up for my life purpose, awaken as a spiritual and human being, let go of fears…..Â
The gift? My subconscious serves me in recognizing my limited beliefs so that I can choose to shift how I think and feel about myself, The Divine, others, and the world. I have developed greater inner strength and knowing as a result of walking through painful thoughts and feelings. My subconscious serves me in awakening to who I am and my soul destiny. That’s how we become conscious creators!
So, while I’m not always immediately thrilled with myself, the invitation to appreciate All parts of my mind, regardless of the experience, is a great way to look at life through the eyes of a champion rather than a victim. A good friend of mine is a great model. When realizing things about herself, she laughs with appreciation and says, “Well that’s really workin for me!” Takes the edge off self-criticism!
To continue the conversation I’m tagging:
Enjoy!

Aren’t you really suggesting we be kind to ourselves Gamy?
Our subconcious will just repeat the information we feed it. Isn’t THAT good to know!
Many thanks for the generous gift about.
Enjoy your day

Yes, coach
I am guilty of that, sometimes
unknowingly can be quite hard on myself and then after that regret
You are most welcome, hope you will like it.
Be Blessed

Welcome to the human race, eh Gamy?
It’s so easy to slip into self-criticism instead of having compassion and tolerance towards ourselves. Committing to self-love is worth it. It’s a process and a journey. Each day is a new opportunity, right?
Blessings,
Lorraine

Great metaphor to make your points Pamir
I especially like your reminders that gardens come back to life over and over again when tended to with love and attention!
Nice
Thanks for playing

Lorraine, I found this post via Pamir’s contribution to the meme, and I am playing along.
I SO agree with you when you say you see your subconscious mind as innocent of deliberately trying to hurt or hinder you.
Thank you for setting me thinking!

My pleasure Pippa
Thanks for playing.
I love the idea of moving into self-appreciation rather than self-deprecation. Ouch!
PS. I think you were also tagged to play with my meme – What Gives You Courage? http://www.powerfull-living.biz/blog/2007/09/18/what-gives-you-courage/
Thanks for stopping by Pippa
Have a terrific day!

It’s indeed innocent because discrimination is given to the conscious mind. The subconscious isn’t the gatekeeper, it has other specialties.
Pippa on 26 Oct 2007 at 10:34 am: 14
Yes, you are right about the “What Gives You Courage” meme ~ Jenny tagged me. Though I was still too much of a baby blogger to know to come and comment here as well, LOL.
Isn’t it great that we learn as we move along?
Much joy to you too!
lorraine on 26 Oct 2007 at 3:44 pm: 15
I love the way you put that Pamir
Well said without judgments
We’re all learning Pippa
It’s a life-long journey that’s a helluva ride!
Blessings to you both

Hello,
Thanks for the tag! I’ll have it up soon. A very interesting topic, and quite a lively conversation!
lorraine on 26 Oct 2007 at 3:52 pm: 17
Great John,
I can’t wait to see what you write!
Pippa on 26 Oct 2007 at 8:12 pm: 18
Eesh, I am *definitely* still learning!
Linked to your post in my blog as well, Lorraine. Baby steps, baby steps…
lorraine on 26 Oct 2007 at 9:07 pm: 19
Aren’t we all Pippa,
I am always learning new things. How wonderful to take delight in the learning journey rather than to shrink from it, yes? You have a great attitude!
Baby steps lead to leaps and bounds. Keep on walking.
PS – thanks for the link. Nice to stay connected.
Cheers,
Lorraine
