What Would You Do With An Extra 36 Hours?

At the beginning of September Edward Mills of Evolving Times posed a question to his readers and fellow bloggers- What would they do if they had an extra 36 hours a week?
The idea came from a recent book, The 4-Hour Workweek, a blockbuster bestseller written by Timothy Ferris.
My thanks to Karen Lynch, Live The Power for tagging me to play with this meme
So, I began to think of what I might do with the extra time. That’s a major complaint with most folks - not having enough time or the challenge of scheduling time…
I wanted my answers to be real and authentic rather that writing down things that look great on paper knowing I would never do them. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of the question! I also wanted to push myself to dream about what I’d love to do that would also challenge me to stretch outside of my comfort zone even if I didn’t have the extra 36 hours!
So, here goes….
1. Have a lot more fun than I’m having now! I love going to the theater, seeing great moving and getting together with friends. Too often I find myself working more than I play. The result is some isolation, too much alone time, and not enough of a balance. So the first thing I’d do is schedule lunches, buy a subscription to a great theater series, and go! I’d make sure I had at least one fun thing to look forward to each week!
2. Sort through the mountain of resources I have on my bookshelf and my computer. Pick which ones I want to keep and the ones I’m ready to discard. I have a fabulous collection of books that are gathering dust and an assortment of expert audios taking up space on my computer that I’ve never heard. I have no doubt I have a a gold mine in wisdom nuggets that are continuing to accumulate. So, taking the time to read my books and listen to my audios would make my list!
3. Volunteer for a mentorship program. I’ve been blessed to have been supported by so many inspiring folks in my career and I’d like to give back to someone who could benefit from my expertise and life experience.
4. Write my book! I say that with a big exclamation point because I must get started on this project that has been on my intention list for years. In my defense, I have been gathering information in order to prepare and now making the time is pushing to the forefront of my priorities.
5. Personal development and spiritual evolution is part of who I am. Having additional time to work with some practices and programs I have in my toolkit that will assist me in my own personal growth and awakening.
6. Nothing. Not one more activity! I would take the time to just “be”. I want to be more still and present to appreciate who I am and all I have.
7. Schedule more things that bring me pleasure and pampering. I love going to spas for hot stone or bar massages. The idea of doing at least one thing each day that brings me pleasure is one I’m ready to commit to!
I could say more and I’ll stop here for now. I think I’ll let the idea percolate and see what else bubbles to the top!

Hi Lorraine,
Thanks for the tag! I could really use an extra 36 hours this week. I am a bit swamped with Positive Thinking Day… so I need to put my reply on hold.
I definately can say that I would have some similar items as you do.

I completely understand Kirsten,
Reply if and when it feels right. There will be many more opportunities to play in the future!
Thanks for stopping by.
Cheers,
Lorraine

Hi Lorraine,
Thanks for opening my mind to ponder.
I am with you about considering my response authentically….and what a question I find it to be! Why does it seem easier to answer what I would do if I won the lottery?? Stay tuned as I meditate on this one…
Best,
Susan

LOL Susan
I felt the same way. I wanted to reply with a heartfelt response and look at how I could begin to add some of the things I was describing into 24 hours. Choices need to change. I will be continuing to ponder this myself.
Thanks for sharing your comments!
I look forward to your post.
Warmly,
Lorraine

Good stuff, Lorraine! 1 and 6 are my favorites. I usually forget to schedule time for fun and for doing nothing, and then feel guilty about it when I throw out something on my daily targets list in favor of them. Much better to put them on the list in the first place.
Thanks!

LOL Lyman
Those are my favorites too. I also have to add #7 in there too. Seems to be a real theme there! Let’s throw the guilt aside and not give it any more attention and TIME.
Do I hear an amen?
Thanks for adding your thoughts Lyman!

Amen and Hallelujah! LOL
