What if many of the common cliques, phrases and words had literal meanings?
Like:
Raining cats and dogs? Oooh lookout - ouch!
I’m all ears! Head to toe?
You’re driving me crazy! Need to see a therapist?
Sleeping like a baby. Now c’mon, do folks typically associate babies and getting sleep?
Going to the restroom. Really, going to take a nap or relax in there?
Up to your eyeballs in….Gosh, could be anything.
Hell On Wheels. Ok, a bit old but I remember it. Ooooh - would you be running for cover?
Got A Kick Out Of. Giver or receiver? Both?
Losing Your Mind/Lost Your Mind - Someone call a therapist!
Knock Your Socks Off. Ooops, sorry I’m too busy chuckling.
I’m just beside myself! Two of you or a split personality?
Boy, I could just keep going…..
How about adding some of yours?

Fun.
Along those lines, here are another two idioms that defy literal meaning:
I’m of two minds on that. - Do you have two minds? Two bodies? How does it feel?
Chomping on the bit. - Are you a horse? Who put the bit in your mouth?
