When you awaken in the morning, do you hit the ground running? That’s how most people start their day. For many, feeling the adrenal pumping is energizing and keeps them moving at a fast pace. For others, jumping out of bed before they have a chance to fully wake up is disorienting and stressful. Five more minutes please!
Let’s be honest, we’re not the Ever Ready Bunny! We do lose steam and focus. If we don’t create time to rest and recharge, burnout is likely.
I have found that having morning and evening rituals (routines) set the tone for my day. If I race out of bed, I’m often running all day (sometimes haphazardly without focus) because I don’t feel centered and grounded. You know what I mean? Kinda like partially showing up because I’m not fully in my body! I’m not at my best and my efforts are usually not as productive when I begin my day like that. So, I’ve come to appreciate the importance of having some quality time in the morning to set my intentions for the day and to have time at night to decompress.
I encourage all my clients and friends to do this.
Some favorite morning rituals:
1. Exercising for 30-45 min. 3-4X per week. (Really grounds me and gets those endorphins going).
2. Meditating for 20 minutes.
3. Writing morning papers. This practice is described in the book, The Artist’s Way.
4. Reading from an inspirational book.
5. Taking a morning walk, either alone or with a friend.
At night, to help you decompress from the day you might:
1. Journal about your day.
2. Read a chapter from a book you enjoy.
3. Listen to some great music.
4. Meditate or use a relaxing CD
5. Take a bubble bath and light some candles.
The point in that whatever you choose can be accomplished in less than 30 minutes so using the excuse, “I don’t have time” won’t fly.
When you implement actions like this consistently, you’ll have more energy, focus, and passion for your business and your life.
So, go create your own day and evening rituals. Start with 15 teeny weeny minutes a day and experiment for a week. You’ll want more!
Leave me a comment and tell me what you think! :D
