Yes, people are amazing, but while Dan Dunn is amazing, he is not original. Denny Dent, who passed away in 2004 was the “original” when it comes to this type of performance art - his “Two-Fisted Art Attack” was truly something to experience. He did it to music, you did not know what portrait he was doing until he was finished, and he had unbelieveable energy!! I saw him perform several times in Denver, and I truly miss his genius and spark.
Paintjam Dan
You are amazing. Where are you located? I would like to possibly hire you to do some art work for a fundraising event. Can you let me know what you would charge?
Actually Denny started it, then Michael Israel took it to new horizons… Dan is now copying Israel. He certainly is not an orrigional. Check out Michael Israel. Note how long Michael has been doing this and how much more together Israel’s act is. http://www.michaelisrael.com Michael started the spinning canvas and Dan actually has copied many more of Israel’s signature moves. Dan just put it up on you tube first. hmmm
I saw Denny Dent perform back in the late ’90s and his energy was astounding. I recall at one point in his performance he stopped the music, turned to the audience, and pleaded ” I can’t go on, I can’t feel you’re energy, I need to feel more energy!!!” at which point the audience erupted into screams of encouragement. And, voila, the music blasted back and he finished the painting in style!
One of his art performance skills was managing to keep the audience guessing how his painting would transform into a portrait until the very last minute. It was always very entetaining.
His web site lives on after him: http://www.dennydent.com
This quote sums up his philosophy: “It’s not what you do, but the way you do it that’s important. Whatever you do… do it with all your heart. Be what you are… be creative!”
I think Dans PaintJam was amazing. Even if some moves were copied that doesn’t mean he is unoriginal. You get angry at him for copying but not Micheal Israel? Also unlike Denny whom i also saw preform he is much faster and has more cartoon drawings than either man; Denny or Micheal. Other types of art such as caricatures don’t have nearly as much originality but people still love them. Think about it, he has to come up with each new piece and do them in minutes flat. That is mindblowing.
Just ran across this. I have been to all these guts sites and watched their videos. I have to admit I like Rocks work the best. He works with the celebrities on stage with him and does a remarkable job. I saw him set a record on Good Morning America; he painted Diane sawyer in 5 min 30 sec. He also does quite a bit of charity work, donating paintings to raise money. Things such as painting Jack Hanna for the guide dog program in Florida. Good Guy
This guy Rock Demarco will be opening for Alice Cooper on Dec 15th in Phoenix infront of ten thousand people for anyone who will be out that way. This event was actually advertised in England where my husband and I vacationed. I agree that Rock’s show is the best I’ve seen compared to the other guys but should we really be picking favorites when it comes to art? Art is to be appreciated by all!
I agree with Emily. Art is for the people, for the beholder. All these guys are very talented and should not be sold short. I think it is a wonderful time when we can all be exposed to so many artist and types of art.
thanks
While drinking my mandatory coffee I caught Rock Demarco on the ABC morning show here in Texas where he was promoting his opening for Dana Carvey that evening. Wow! He sure has his own signature look and style.
Love that glove with paint brush finger tips. Cool!
Denny was the greatest. No Question. There are others.
I repsect my other talented artistic brothers and sisters.
I am having fun entertaining people with my work and as my manager says, sure others paint like this but you are the guy with 12 million hits on you tube and touring the world.I must be doing something right. Props for Denny, may he rest in peace. I never deny that he was my inspiration, but I am trying to find my own voice.
Just stmbled on this blog and I wanted to add that yes, Denny Dent may have opened the door to the fast-paint world, but Dan Dunn has kept that door open by sharing his great talent via his Youtube blast that reached homes across America. Dan is a personal friend of mine and he ROCKS!
I really think Michael Israel has the best overall presentation and quality of his work. He also donates a lot to charity and travels the world. He has raised millions for international and national charities and has 7 millions hit on You Tube, so maybe Dan Dunn isnt so originial
It seems there are a few great folks out there doing the same kind of entertainment and are doing it with great talent and style. Giving back some of the monies earned to contibute to making the world a better place is great to hear. Thanks Amy!
