I attended a fundraiser today that honored four local women for outstanding contributions to the community. Approximately 160 women registered to support the luncheon.
I am familiar with two of the women honorees. My friend Ellen was the first to be introduced. She’s known for the woman who always wears a hat. And she looks great in them! In her short acceptance speech she mentioned that yesterday marked her 50th birthday. A friend of hers had organized a gathering to celebrate the day and each person was asked to come up with three words that described Ellen in their eyes. As she stood at the podium, she shared some of her family’s responses with deadpan precision:
Her sister said – Oh My God
Her daughter said – eccentric (no other words)
Her husband said – I’m sorry Ellen
If you’re not laughing, it’s because you had to be there to appreciate the context and humor. I was roaring. She was hilarious.
I loved the idea her friend had.
