Is this you?

You’ve launched a new business for the purpose of taking control of your life and have found that your business is controlling YOU. Your business might be thriving at the expense of having a life and feeling good.

The good news is that it is possible to have a high-quality career or business AND have a happier life.

If you’ve developed a business and marketing plan, creating a life plan that embodies what matters most to you is key.

What to include? Consider the follow:

  1. Core Values - What’s most important to you?
  2. Dreams - What do you dream about? What have you always wanted?
  3. Family - Is your business allowing quality time to spend with your spouse and family?
  4. Employees - How are your efforts supporting them to accomplish goals? How do you contribute in creating win-win relationships and results?
  5. Exit (Retirement) Plan - Are you working towards retirement? If so, what do you want your business to look like when you are ready to step out? Do you want to reduce your hours or leave it completely? If you want to reduce your hours - when and how many hours? What is your succession plan?
  6. Financial - How much money do you want? What systems/people do you need to help you insure your financial future? (Direct savings, financial planner/investor, creating multiple income streams).
  7. Friendships - Are you creating time to spend with people who are important to you? If not, what needs to change?
  8. Fun - Are you having fun in your business? How about in your personal life? What’s fun and interesting to you? What are some of the ways you can bring more fun into your life?
  9. Environment - Does your workspace support you? If not, what changes would improve your work environment so that you are more energized and productive? Include your home environment in this as well. Refer to my earlier posts on creating a success-setting environment!
  10. Physical Health - How do you maintain your health and energy? What is your self-care program? How’s it working for you?
  11. Personal Growth - Are you growing as a person as well as growing your business?
  12. Contribution - Are you helping others to succeed? In what ways are you giving back to others?
  13. Community - What kind of support do you have in staying focused and energized? What professional and personal relationships have you cultivated?

Make your life plan a living document that evolves for you as you grow! Identifying what matters most to you will help you create the personal strategies that empower your business development in ways that help you find more balance in your life. How’s that for a win-win?
