Cut Yourself Some Slack

About twice a year I feel like I’m coming down with something - a cold or the flu. I’m dragging a bit and I just don’t feel at my best. It’s usually when the seasons are changing. I know that’s true right now with the high pollen count, not to mention the huge fluctuations in temperature!
It is times like this, I have to give myself permission to slow down and pay attention to what my body needs. That means taking additional breaks during the day, delegating more things, re-arranging my to-do list, and managing my energy so that I accomplish what must be done while taking good care of ME. It’s all about choices and priorities!
I’m a believer in extreme self-care. I use the term extreme self-care because taking care of YOU is serious. I’m writing this today because I know that self-care is a big challenge for many. Is it for you?
I view self-care like the foundation of a house (you’re the house!). If your foundation is shaky, how sturdy will your house be to weather storms, environmental changes, and the regular day to day living?
So, with the changing of seasons, take some time to check in with yourself. Do you need a little R&R? How about some more fun?
If you’re feeling some resistance to slow down, step back or just TAKE THE DAY OFF! Release the guilt and just do it. It’s important to recognize when you need to change your daily routine, especially when your insides are screaming, “Hello! I’m exhausted! I need a break!” Whatever the message is, pay attention and take appropriate action. During periods of high stress and activity (deadlines, product creation, social commitments, and business growth), deliberately building self-care activities into your schedule will boost your ability to be successful, personally and professionally.
Self-care is a business strategy; a system that supports your personal development AND your business success!
Bottom line: Everything in your life will work better and so will you.
Well, I’m off to eat some soup and a short nap so I’ll be ready for my 6:30 pm client.
What do you need to do for you?
